Please take the time to check out the details of these highly educational workshops.
Our weekend and online workshops are specifically designed to complement each other. The face-to-face weekend workshops will challenge you and help you to develop your practical skills. The online workshop content will provide more detailed information on practical activities, theory and self-care information.
You are more than welcome to stop by for the one day that interests you, or enjoy our full workshop series experience.
We appreciate that everyone has individual learning skills characteristics and are at different levels of personal development. Therefore, we will take the time and care required to assist you in gaining the knowledge and skills necessary to support your very own personal development needs.
But the first step is up to you, so book in today.
In our opinion, personal development should never be a job for tomorrow.
- Would you trust a skin specialist covered in acne? Would you trust an unfit personal trainer? What about a massage therapist with bad posture or that is consistently injured? When you are a health industry professional, if you are going to talk the talk then you need to walk the walk. Get your body fit to be a massage therapist. How? By using many of the self-care activities that you would give to your clients.
-
Let’s take a second to have a think about your posture. Do you suffer from pain when you are massaging? Is it a sore lower back? Tight shoulders and neck? Painful hands? Do you think that your posture maybe the problem?
Again, we ask our client to work on their posture but are you working on yours?
Learn how to use your posture to treat effectively. Let’s change up the way you have always done it for a way that will allow you to do it for a long time. - Muscles are one of the most important tissues for a manual therapist to understand. How well do you understand them? We are most often taught about muscles in a 2D fashion , we learn about each of their actions individually. This is based on the usual origin and insertion approach. This is a mistake as a muscle’s function does not allow it to perform multiple individual actions. A muscle’s true action is a combination of all the 2D actions it can perform giving it its 3D effect. This is based on analysing the line of pull of a muscle. Do you want to learn more about true muscle function? Come along to Core Skills Workshop #1 for more on this easy to learn approach to identifying and understanding muscle function.
- Do you have difficulty working out what actions are causing your clients pain? Do you ever wonder how to translate normal assessment techniques to real world actions? What is broken and needs to be fixed! This is another section of the 2D vs 3D method. We will teach you to work both ways to assess movements. You can break down a real-world 3D movement into its single plane 2D movements. Sounds easy but real world actions occur at multiple joints so there can be a lot to think about. You will also learn how to build a real-world action from the results of single plane active range of motion tests to identify problematic actions.
Upper Back and Neck – Core Skills Workshop #3
- It doesn’t matter if you use postural assessment in your clinic every day or if it is something you learnt years ago, but do not utilise. It is an essential skill that any manual therapist that works with pain should know about. We will show you how to simplify postural assessment whilst demonstrating some more advanced components to explain more complex cases. Sometimes a fresh perspective can change your outlook.
- In each workshop, you will also learn how to perform dynamic assessment and how to apply these results to the 2D vs 3D approach. You will get a recap of the standard single plane assessment results then move into the assessment of real world actions.
- So, you have spent all this time assessing your client, can you work out what the results mean and how to apply them to a massage treatment? Do you want to learn how to create an effective treatment plan based on your assessment results? We will teach you how to determine what needs massage, what needs stretching and what needs strengthening. You will have the skills to help your client understand their body mechanics and why you are treating what you are treating.
- Do you want to lengthen out your client’s short muscles and save your hands from excessive pressure? Enter practitioner assisted stretching. You will learn about multiple modes of 2 persons stretched including neurological methods. All you need to make your clients nice and flexible. As a bonus, you will also learn a repertoire of take home stretches for your clients.
- The last component of our workshops is building a good foundation of strength for the back and shoulders. “But I am a massage therapist not a personal trainer!” I hear you saying. Here are a couple of good reasons why you should get you clients working on their strength. Muscle strength can be used to rectify poor posture, if they are too weak to move effectively they will never be able to correct their posture. Muscle strength can also be used to help relax a chronically tight muscle! How? Well a weak muscle will create joint instability. If the nervous system senses an unstable joint it will contract the tissues that cross said joint. So a weak muscle can become tight due to instability. Fix the instability and you can fix the tightness.
Upper Limb – Core Skills Workshops #5
- In this pair of workshops, you will learn all about our limbs greatest enemies, the brothers ‘itis’ and ‘osis’. Do you know the difference between them and how to provide a quality treatment for either condition? If not, we can help you!
-
Not only will we discuss these types of conditions, we will train you to use specialised testing to determine what type of injury your client has. This will ensure that you can identify what condition your client is suffering from. How else can you create an effective treatment plan?
Learn to test what you identify and then re-test what was dysfunctional for accurate follow up results - Learn how to treat numerous painful conditions and the main factor for poor recovery. The most common cause of not recovering from injury or painful conditions is pain – help your client manage theirs for long lasting results.
-
Do you want your clients to heal faster? Get them to work on themselves!
Do you want your clients to improve their bodies while you’re not treating them? Get them to work on themselves!
Do you want to reduce the likelihood of your client’s condition to return? Get them to work on themselves!
Do you want to empower your clients to be self-sufficient? Get them to work on themselves!
The biggest key to self-care compliance is to explain to your clients why they should do it. Do you know how their self-care works to heal them? If you don’t, how will your client? Do you know the benefits they will get? If you don’t, how will your client? Understand the self-care you give your clients and you will give them so much more!
